1st Generation
Me, I'm 25. He's 45 or older. I am speaking first, he is listening and preparing his reply. I explain that I need time to work on my novel. It's important. It's more important than working extra (unpaid) hours because being an author is my life's mission. His turn. He takes a guess that I am a first generation immigrant. Me, I am a first generation immigrant, both of my parents lived in the Philippines. He continues. According to him, most first generation immigrants have the same sense of urgency to complete everything now. He adds that I have plenty of time to accomplish my goals, but must focus on my job, and my extra hours, because my job is the mission now. NO, I yell in my own head. Me, I'm going to write that novel at all costs.
